The quiet concentration in the Fulton Middle School MPR this past Saturday spoke volumes about the talent in our district. Students from all three FVSD middle schools gathered for the 5th Annual Middle School Chess Tournament, a highlight of the year for our campus chess clubs.

Bridging the gap between the classroom and home is key to student success, and the team at Cox Elementary did just that during their recent TK & Kinder math event. The focus of the day was demystifying modern instructional strategies and showing families how much fun "number talk" can be for our youngest learners.

This year marked a special milestone for Masuda Middle School as the Masuda Chapter of FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) celebrated its 10th anniversary. Founded by teacher Katie McLemore, the program has now seen 49 different competitors showcase their talents over the last decade.

There is no greater influence on student success than a dedicated teacher, and this week, we had the privilege of celebrating ten of the very best.

Earlier this month, the 3rd-grade classrooms at Cox Elementary felt a little more like the California Gold Rush era than a typical school day. After reading Boom Town by Sonia Levitin, a story about a young girl named Amanda who helps build a town starting with a simple pie business, students got to put those same lessons into practice.
